BECOME AN SQFI TRAINING CENTRE

What does SQF training involve?

The integrity of the SQF Program relies on efficient, effective and competent implementation and auditing of SQF Systems. The SQF Institute has prepared specified guidelines on SQF Systems training covering the implementation and auditing of SQF systems. The training goals are to:

  • to promote an understanding and awareness of food safety practices;
  • to provide an understanding of SQF System principles, activities and terminology;
  • to promote a common approach for the implementation and auditing of SQF Systems;
  • to share knowledge and practical experiences in applying SQF Program principles;
  • to impart the skills necessary so that food safety professionals can implement and audit an SQF System appropriately in order to provide safe, quality food; and
  • to ensure a consistent and effective approach to the implementation and auditing of an SQF System.

SQF Training is targeted at 3 specific areas; SQF Auditors, SQF Experts (Practitioners and Consultants) and clients who will use the SQF system.

Training for SQF Experts and SQF Auditors consists of the 2 day course "Implementing SQF Systems". SQF Auditors and SQF Consultants must also successfully complete the 1 day course "Auditing SQF Systems".

The training is delivered by Training Centres licensed by SQFI who will design and adapt the training to meet the particular needs of an industry sector. The satisfactory completion of Recognized HACCP Training is a prerequisite for those planning to attend the SQF Systems Training Course.

What are the criteria to become an SQFI Training Centre?

An SQFI Training Centre must be a recognised centre of excellence providing training to the food industry which employs a competent staff.

As individuals employed by an SQFI Training Centre, SQF Trainers must be able to demonstrate relevant skills, knowledge and experience necessary to support a HACCP based system in a specific food industry sector.

Trainers must be registered SQF Consultants or SQF Auditors, thereby demonstrating they have a suitable food industry and technical background and a sound knowledge of the SQF System and how it is implemented and audited. In addition to this they must also have:

  • recognized train the trainer qualifications and good communication skills, including interactive skills and experience in coordinating interactive exercises;
  • the capacity to deliver training to a broad audience and the flexibility to utilize translation as required; and
  • flexibility and responsiveness to trainees' needs with respect to their skills.

Where training is to be provided for specific groups with specific needs the Training Centre is required to provide access to a resource person with expert knowledge about the particular product or process considered during training.

How does a prospective Training Centre become involved?

Applications are invited from Food Industry Training Centres that meet the criteria. The SQF Institute provides all training materials and new training centres are required to complete the SQFI Train the Trainer Course to ensure they have a full understanding of the SQF System training requirements.

SQF Systems Training Courses are tailored by the trainer to particular audience needs and are developed on the basis of SQF guidelines.
